About the Artist

I'm a native of Knoxville, Tennessee and have worked in the advertising and graphic design fields for over 35 years. I come from a family of artists as my father was a commercial artist and art director at a major advertising agency in Knoxville during the "Mad Men" days of the 50s and 60s. My brother Bob Longmire is also a graphic designer and artist.

I have always enjoyed drawing and painting and other creative endeavors. I am mostly self-taught although I did attend the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, majoring in communication design, while at the same time working at my dad's advertising art company. I knew more about some subjects than my instructors did!

Through the years, I have worked at small advertising agencies where I was a paste-up artist (pre-digital term!), darkroom assistant, video and radio advertising assistant, and pre-press assistant as well as being an art director myself for a while. At one time, at a very small company, I was a one-man art department.

For the past 25+ years, I have been a graphic designer for a government contractor. Hey, it has paid the bills!
